Available every day …

Bright blue buildings are not unusual in Western Australia Lumix G3 f5.2 1/1000s ISO160 LUMIX G VARIO PZ 14-42/F3.5-5.6

With such deep blue skies almost every day any building or bill board that happens to be blue becomes a deeper blue with the approaching evening Even the shadows look a deeper blue on this laptop screen. I don’t have a circular polariser for this lens and it seems to be at its best between f5 and f8 at  28mm or so, once at f11 a bit of diffusion looks to creep in at the equivalent of 70mm or so. As a result I try to keep the aperture within that range which in W.A’s bright light whacks the shutter speed up so I could probably could use a polariser most of the time…

Lumix G3 f8 1/200s Olympus 60mm Macro

One of my first images with the new and rather marvellous Olympus 60mm macro lens. My all time favourite macro lenses are the Canon FD’s and the Leica R 90mm closely followed by the only auto focus macro I have ever used the venerable Canon EF100 all of which by any standard would be regarded as excellent. However this Olympus 60mm is better in most respects than all of the above. The AF is streaks ahead of the Canon in speed and accuracy. I am using it currently on a Lumix G3 which is no match for the OMD (my OMD was stolen) so I can only imagine how good it would be on that. The colour rendering is just lovely, the colour is delicately painted on to the subject. I have yet to see any amount of colour fringing and the sharpness speaks for itself. This is a very good lens which sets a new standard in macro lenses…

Blue lady orchid 2012, a very good year…

Blue Lady Orchid

Lumix G3 f16 1/50s ISO 200, Canon f4 100mm macro

Today was a very windy day took me that best part of an hour to get a handful of average even the upper flower on this spike can be seen to me moving. The problem is these elegant flowers will be will be around for only a few more days and then thats it until next year which adds credence to the old adage ‘beauty is but fleeting’
