Bark on bauxite…

Bark on bauxite many gum trees shed bark instead of leaves

Lumix G3 f5.6 1/30s ISO200

Eucalyptus or gum trees as they are commonly called are real survivors.  They drop their stiff leaves all the year round but more fall in the hot summer months. They also shed their bark some times after a fire when new shoots push through almost anywhere an the bark surface and also as they grow out of their bark covering Nearly all the Eucalypts are native to Australia with just a few in South America. They are very tough trees and can even grow in the bauxite laterite as seen above. Beneath this gravel is a very sticky yellow clay and sometimes white kaolinite this anchors the trees firmly in the ground.
